Have you ever looked through your closet and not been able to find anything to wear? Have you ever gone thrifting and thought an item had potential but wasn’t sure what you could do to take it to the next level? What about clothes that no longer fit or are too big? If you answered yes to any of these questions then up-cycling might be for you!

WHAT IS UP-CYCLING?
Up-cycling is when you take an item and change it so that it turns into something completely new. The idea is that you won’t be able to recognize the item once you’ve either made alterations or changes and it’ll soon become one of you favourite pieces.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN UP-CYCLING?
Up-cycling can entail either cropping, sewing, tailoring, hemming, taking apart items for fabric and making something new along with so many other things. You really need to look at the pieces with imagination to come up with what you want to do with them. Thrifting can be especially good for up-cycling. Many piece you find at thrift stores may have cool patterns, be too long or too big or are maybe just not quite in style anymore. Up-cycling will help give them a new life.
HOW TO UP-CYCLE
Like previously mentioned, you need to start by having a lot of imagination when it comes to what you want your future pieces to look like. Go through your closet, or the racks of the thrift store and pick out ones you think have potential. Go home and imagine them shorter, cropped, made into something completely different but using the same fabric. Once you have a plan, set out make it happen. Grad the scissors, sewing needle and thread and get to work!
